Two important East–West stretches of Bengaluru Metro will be formally dedicated to the nation on October 20, 2026, during the same programme that launches the Delhi–Ghaziabad–Meerut RRTS priority section. The announcement was issued by the Prime Minister’s Office.

Which stretches are included

The two stretches connect Baiyappanahalli with Krishnarajapura and Kengeri with Challaghatta. Both sections were already opened for public service on October 9, 2023, so the October 20 event is a formal dedication rather than the first day of passenger operations on these stretches.

That distinction matters for commuters searching for a “Bengaluru Metro opening” date. The sections are part of the operational East–West corridor, and regular travel planning should continue to use the latest BMRCL timetable, station information and interchange guidance.

Why the announcement still matters

Formal dedication gives the two stretches a national infrastructure milestone alongside the RRTS launch. It also places Bengaluru’s metro expansion in the wider conversation about regional mobility, multimodal connections and the role of rail in reducing road congestion.

For passengers, the practical benefit is less about a new inauguration-day route and more about understanding where the operational corridor fits into a longer journey. Krishnarajapura is an important interchange point for east Bengaluru, while the Kengeri–Challaghatta side serves the western edge of the city and its growing residential and institutional areas.

Commuter checklist

Passengers should check the exact platform and interchange route, allow time for the first and last kilometre, and confirm service status before travelling during a public event. Formal ceremonies can bring temporary access controls even when trains are running normally.

The PMO announcement confirms the two stretches and their formal dedication date. It does not announce a new passenger timetable in the same release, so commuters should rely on BMRCL’s current service notice for day-to-day timings.
