The Kaveri tunnel boring machine has completed its downline drive at Kilpauk Medical College Station on Chennai Metro Phase II Corridor 3.
Chennai Metro Phase II Corridor 3 has recorded a breakthrough at Kilpauk Medical College Station. CMRL said the downline TBM Kaveri completed a 685-metre tunnel drive between Chetpet and KMC on September 29, 2026.
The drive passed below five live Southern Railway tracks near Chetpet, the Chetpet Eco Park lake and buildings linked to Kilpauk Medical College. It also passed near existing Chennai Metro Phase I tunnels, with a minimum separation of 6.1 metres.
CMRL said the work was completed without major ground settlement or damage to existing infrastructure. The machine completed the drive in 252 days after ten cutterhead interventions, making it the ninth TBM breakthrough under the TU02 contract.
