Durga Aarti guide: how to prepare a simple evening puja respectfully
A practical, non-prescriptive guide to preparing for a Durga Aarti at home or a community venue, with room for regional traditions.

Durga Aarti is commonly associated with light, prayer and collective devotion. A simple evening preparation can begin by cleaning the worship space, placing an image or murti respectfully and arranging a diya, flowers, water and prasad according to the family’s tradition.
There is no single household format followed everywhere. Some families sing a familiar Durga Mata Aarti, some use a temple’s printed booklet and some keep the ritual brief. The important point is to use the version taught by a trusted family or temple source rather than treating a random online lyric page as authoritative.
At a public venue, follow the committee’s instructions about queues, photography, offerings and the movement of devotees. At home, keep a flame attended and away from children or loose fabric.
This is a cultural and practical explainer, not a replacement for a priest’s guidance. It intentionally does not reproduce a complete devotional lyric.
