How the MTA schedules page works

MTA schedule meaning, made simple

The official MTA schedules page is an index of timetable PDFs, not one universal departure board. Each PDF is a timetable for one line or branch. A timetable normally contains a station order, train numbers, departure times, arrival times, direction headings, weekday or weekend columns, symbols and footnotes. Use the guide below to open the correct document first.

Metro-North serves the Hudson Valley, Harlem Valley and Connecticut corridors from New York City. LIRR serves Long Island, Queens, Brooklyn and Manhattan terminals.

How do I read an MTA train timetable?

Choose the correct line or branch, select the travel day, then read the direction column from your station to your destination. Check symbols and footnotes because some trains skip stops, require a transfer or run only on selected days.

No. Weekday, weekend, holiday, planned-work and event timetables can differ. Always open the current official PDF before travelling.

Do Metro-North Port Jervis and Pascack Valley trains use MTA schedules?

They are listed through MTA Metro-North, but the service is operated by NJ TRANSIT. Check the NJ TRANSIT schedule lookup for the final timetable and service notice.
