Diwali lights for a balcony
Measure the balcony railing and decide whether the lights will run along the top, frame the doorway or form a vertical drop. Buy a little extra length for corners but do not connect more strings than the manufacturer allows.
A simple layout
Use warm-white LED string lights along the railing, two lanterns near the corners and a small diya or LED diya cluster on a stable ledge. Keep the centre open so the balcony does not look crowded. For photographs, place brighter lights behind the seating area and keep the foreground uncluttered.
Electrical checklist
Choose weather-resistant lights for an exposed balcony, keep plugs away from rain, use a safe extension board and avoid loose joints. Tape or clip wires so they cannot trip anyone. A timer can reduce overnight power use, but check that it is rated for the load.
Example on a small balcony
A 10-metre warm LED string around the railing, one paper lantern at each side and four battery LED diyas can create a festive look without blocking the door. Use real flame only on a non-flammable surface and never leave it unattended.
Check housing-society rules, switch off lights before sleeping and remove any damaged wire immediately.
