Kolkata’s Durga Puja is best experienced as a sequence of neighbourhood visits rather than a race across the city. The official tourism description points to the festival’s scale, art and crowded streets, while local committees decide the details of each venue.

Start with a small cluster of pandals near one transport corridor. Check whether the venue is open to general visitors, note any queue arrangement and keep a meeting point in case the group separates. A route that looks short on a map can take much longer during peak evenings.

Wear comfortable footwear, carry a small water bottle and keep valuables secure. Follow barricades and do not enter restricted areas for a better photograph.

The best plan is flexible: if one venue is too crowded, move to the next nearby stop instead of creating pressure at the entrance. Recheck local transport and police advisories on the day of travel.
